Happy Birthday to our dearest Anjé!

Anjé, you are one of those special people who carries the weight of difficult things with such grace. You show up every day for the babies, for our team, and for the work, giving your best to everything you need to do. Your attention to detail, your meticulous nature, and your gift for bringing order make you an absolute treasure to this team. Nothing slips through the cracks when Anjé is involved, and we are all the better for it.

But what moves us most is your heart. You always place the babies first. You always find a way to make things better, for the little ones, for the team, for everyone around you. Your love for the vulnerable is not something you switch on when it is convenient. It is simply who you are.

Daybreak House is unquestionably better because you are in it, and we never want to imagine it without you.

We pray this birthday brings you a day filled with joy and laughter. You deserve to be celebrated today and every day.

A small change, and a big meaning. When Esté beg

A small change, and a big meaning.

When Esté began painting Promise, she felt drawn to change one detail from the reference photo by swapping the original bouquet for fynbos.

Fynbos (including certain proteas) only release their seeds after fire. It's a plant that knows how to bring new life out of what looks like loss. Just like Promise. Just like so many of the babies who come through Daybreak House. A hard beginning is never the end of the story.

Every time you see these flowers in Promise's hands, we hope you're reminded that in God's hands, even the hardest beginnings can become stories of healing, restoration, and a beautiful future.

Yesterday morning I sat at my desk while Madel paged through our baby files in my office. She stopped at a birth certificate and said it was the weirdest one she had ever seen. The surname was spelt wrong. Where the parents' names should have been, there was nothing.

I started crying.

Last night I was thinking about our little warrior princess, the girl who arrived here with a hospital bracelet compacted with dirt, and I was comforted by Isaiah 49:16.

"See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands."

Not written in pencil. Not typed into a form that might get the spelling wrong. Engraved.
Her name is there. It has always been there.
